Aquatic Supervision
Parents Supervise, Lifeguards Save Lives
Your safety is very important to us and while there are lifeguards on hand, we ask you to follow these steps to help ensure your safety in and around our aquatic areas.
Watch Around Water
Here at The Loxton Swimming Centre we go above the Watch Around Water program. This program was developed to educate the public about adequate supervision and encourage parent/guardians to take on this responsibility when visiting a public aquatic facility.
Therefore, the following safe supervision policies must be adhered to:
Children 0-4 years of age
- Children under 5 must be accompanied in the water, constantly supervised and remain within arm’s reach of a responsible adult at all times in and out of the water. (Pink Wristband)
- Ratio: 1 Adult to 2 Children aged 0-4.
Children 5-9 years of age
- Children under 10 must be actively supervised by an adult at all times. (Yellow Wristband)
- Children under 10 will not be admitted without an appropriate parent/guardian.
- The parent/guardian must be 16 years or over and adhere to all conditions of entry.
- The parent/guardian must position themselves to have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child.
- Ratio: 1 Adult to 4 Children aged 5-9.
- If an adult has a child 0-4 years old they can only have a maximum of 3 children 5-9 years
Children Under 13 (10 - 12 years of age)
- Accompanied by adult at all times.
- A parent, guardian or adult is classed as an individual who is over the age of 16 years.
Unsupervised children (of any age) will be removed from the water if the lifeguard is concerned for their safety.
Patrons aged 13 years and above will be required to present photo ID if asked.
Weak/Non-Swimmer Policy
- Tell a staff member if you are a Non-Swimmer, we’re here to help!
- It’s ok to admit you are a non-swimmer, be recognised and survive
- Wear a water safety orange wrist band while in the water to be recognised by lifeguards
- Swim within safe depths according to your ability
- Never swim in deep water if you are a Non-Swimmer
- Be aware of drop zones in pools and abrupt depth change areas
- Swim with a friend or companion
